Privacy Policy
This policy explains what personal information Genizes collects when you use genizes.com, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and your rights. We collect only what we need to restore your photos and run the service.
Who is responsible
Genizes is operated from Quebec, Canada. The person in charge of protecting personal information is our Privacy Officer, who you can reach at support@genizes.com.
What we collect
- Photos you upload and the restored photos and clips we create from them.
- Your email address, if you sign in. We use it to send you sign-in codes. We don't send marketing emails. If you sign in with Google, Google also shares your name and profile picture with us; we only use your email address.
- Purchase information: which pack you bought, the amount, the date and a link to your receipt. Payments are handled by Stripe; we never see or store your full card number. Stripe gives us a card “fingerprint” (a code that identifies a card without revealing its number), which we use only to prevent fraud.
- Usage records: when you start a restoration or animation, a code stored in a cookie if you aren't signed in, and a scrambled (salted and hashed) version of your IP address. We can't recover your IP address from it. We use these to apply free-preview limits and prevent abuse.
Cookies
We only use cookies the site needs to work:
- a sign-in cookie, so you stay signed in;
- a visitor cookie (“gz_guest”), so you can see a photo you restored before signing in;
- a language cookie (“lang”), to remember French or English.
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use your information
- to restore, colorize and animate your photos, and show them only to you;
- to sign you in, sell credits, and give you receipts;
- to apply fair-use limits, prevent fraud and payment abuse, and keep the service secure;
- to answer you when you contact us.
We never use your photos to train AI models, and never in our advertising. We don't sell or rent your personal information.
Who we share it with
We use these service providers, only for the purposes above:
- Supabase (database, sign-in and photo storage), with data stored in Canada;
- Vercel (website hosting, and anonymous visit counts without cookies), United States;
- Replicate (runs the AI models that restore and animate photos), United States;
- Stripe (payments), Canada and United States;
- Resend (sends sign-in emails), United States;
- Google (sign-in with Google, if you choose it), United States;
- Cloudflare (domain and network), worldwide.
Some of these providers are outside Quebec, so your information may be processed in the United States, where it can be subject to local laws. We chose providers that protect information with security measures and contractual commitments.
How long we keep it
- Free previews (photos you haven't unlocked or animated): deleted automatically after 30 days, with the original you uploaded.
- Photos you unlock or animate: kept until you delete them or delete your account.
- Usage records: deleted after 12 months.
- Your account: kept until you delete it from your Account page.
- Payment records: Stripe keeps them as required by tax and financial laws. If a card was used for a bank dispute or a refund after its credits were used, we keep its fingerprint as long as needed to prevent the same abuse.
Your rights
You can, at any time:
- see and download your photos, and delete any of them, from My photos;
- delete your account and everything in it, from your Account page;
- ask us for a copy of your personal information, in a structured format, or ask us to correct it;
- withdraw your consent, by deleting your account or writing to us.
Write to support@genizes.com; we answer within 30 days. If you aren't satisfied, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Security
Your photos are stored privately and are only shown through short-lived links. Connections are encrypted, and only our server can change your credits or records. If a breach could cause you serious harm, we'll tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
Age
Genizes is for people 18 and older.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date below and tell signed-in users before the change applies.
